Welcome to SCBWI New Mexico. (If you are a national member, you are automatically a member of the NM region as well. There is no additional fee. To join SCBWI, visit http://www.scbwi.org/)

SCBWI-NM produces a quarterly newsletter. You can download the newsletter from this web site.

Contact elerts (at) scbwi-nm (dot) org to get on the mailing list for weekly e-lerts about our programs, other local events, and industry information. This will also notify you when the newsletters are available.

We have monthly schmoozes in Albuquerque, the second Tuesday of each month, from 7-8:30 at Alamosa Books, 8810 Holly Ave. NE, Suite D (NW corner of Paseo del Norte and Ventura, right next to Saxby’s Coffee).  Schmoozes feature short workshops or discussions, followed by social time. Workshop topics are announced through the e-lerts. (No schmooze in December.) SCBWI writers and illustrators also meet at an optional pre-schmooze dinner gathering from 5:30-6:45 at Dion's Pizza (8100 Wyoming Boulevard NE; in the shopping complex at the NE corner of Wyoming & Paseo).

We also have a peer critique meeting on the third Saturday of the month, from 1:30 to 3:30 at the Erna Ferguson Library community room (3700 San Mateo NE). Sessions will be facilitated by an experienced writer and critique leader.

Illustrators meet for critiques and schmoozes the second Saturday of each month, often at the Border's bookstore cafe at Academy and Wyoming in Albuquerque, with special events on other days. Check the calendar for the schedule or contact illustrations (at) scbwi-nm (dot) org.

In Santa Fe, join us in a safe and positive atmosphere to critique your children's literature manuscript. Bring 5-6 copies for reading. Time will be shared equally. We meet on the second Sunday of every month from 3:00-5:00 pm at the Downtown Main Public Library,  2nd floor media room, 145 Washington Avenue Santa Fe, NM 87501. FREE parking downtown in the library lot and on all meters. Contact Anji Estrellas, Facilitator, SantaFeCritique (at) scbwi-nm (dot) org.

Katie Beatty is in charge of Farmington-area schmoozes, the third Saturday of the month at 1 pm at the Farmington Library. The Los Alamos Writers Group meets the 2nd and 4th Thursdays of the month (except Thanksgiving and Christmas week) from 7-8:30 p.m. at Daylight Delights/LA Sub shop in Los Alamos on Central Ave. It's not officially a SCBWI group, but lots of SCBWI members attend. We do not currently have area representatives for El Paso or the southern part of New Mexico. If you are interested in organizing a monthly social event or critique group there or in another unrepresented area, contact ra (at) scbwi-nm (dot) org.

We hold a major Conference every 18 months in Albuquerque, at the UNM SUB. The next will be October 8, 2011. The program includes two editors, an agent and art director discussing their lists and giving first pages critiques, then intensive afternoon breakout sessions with those speakers. A Friday night event provides socializing opportunities. Information for 2011 will go out on the e-lerts, and a brochure will be posted on the web site by September.

I hope to see you at a future event!

We're Back!

Well, we're back up and running after our latest experience having the site hacked.  After a ton of research, we've decided to use the Google Apps service for no-profits - check it out if you have a group that qualifies.  We hope that the Google Apps stuff is harder to hack than our other side was (makes sense, doesn't it?), and we'll be sure to let you know how it goes.  Wish us luck!
